Shooting Film

These days I decided I'd like to shoot some film, but film only.

Haven't done that without shooting digital as well, to be safe if something fails.
But recently I became more confident in what I'm doing with my film cameras and metering with a light meter.

What's awesome about shooting film is, I just shot two rolls of film, Ilford HP5 Plus, switching back and forth between the formats I did choose before the shoot.
Shot with my Mamiya RZ67, which gave me 10 shots on a 120-roll, and 35mm on my Canon AE-1 for a little more frames.

Thanks to my awesome team, Jules for styling & Kaarina for doing a great job with Make-up.
And of course our model Kathi.

Here are some impressions of the shoot.

Testing in Vienna

Just flew home a few days back to give myself a break of work and visit my beloved family & friends these days.
As usual we met at Burnlab Vienna to test some ideas we had in mind for a few weeks now.
Also had my friend Michelle over to assist as well as two of my favorite Make-up Artists who are some of my best friends and most creative people I know.

So I'd like to share some impressions I got from yesterday.

Speicherstadt

Hey folks

I'm really happy right now. Thursday I realised, the weather well be awesome on satuday, so I tried to organise a little test. But what happened was way more then I ever expected.
The, awesome, Make-up Artist Alex encouraged me to ask for a Stylist, even though it was very spontaneous.
And we found the awesome Bettina Schönfelder at Kult Artists.

So we met saturday morning to shoot at the "Speicherstadt" near the harbor of Hamburg and I really have to say, that was by far the best shoot I had so far in Hamburg and maybe one of the best fashion-editorials ever.

Here we go with some making-of material :)

Everyday...

Hey folks

Today I'd like to talk about something a did, or actually did not quite often in the past few years when it comes to, shooting everyday.

I have some awesome cameras, digital as well as film, but I rarely shoot more than once a week.
When I first started out to take pictures, as a kid, even though I "just" had film and point&shoot camera, I went out shooting way more often.
Also with my first digital SLR, a few years back, I had it with me as often as possible. I even went out shooting when it was cold at 4 o'clock in the morning, sometimes after getting home from the club, to capture the magical "blue hour".

But lately I don't do that anymore, I got lazy, always having the excuse of a heavy camera with some lenses, tripod etc. etc..

I really missed some nice sunsets or overall great scenes during vacation (Milan, New York...) or in everyday life because of that habit I got myself into.

I told myself it's not worth the time shooting with a small SLR or smartphone because the images won't be perfect in a technical kind of seeing them.
But I have to be honest, they don't need to be.

Since a few days I carry around my little Fuji x100s all the time, no matter if I am at work, just going to the supermarket or whatever I do outside.

And guess what, I captured some beautiful images (at least in my opinion) and I am happy about it.

From now on I will be posting a lot more stuff, not only some editorial work or making-of.

01.02.2014 - The Gathering

Long time no see,… I'll try to blog more frequently from now on and write about photography and my personal work.

Today I would like to talk about "The Gathering" I had yesterday in my beautiful hometown Vienna.

After moving to Hamburg last October I wasn't able to shoot with my crew every week so I really have to say, it became even more special to me to have such awesome friends who are taking this journey with me. Not "only" someone who does some assisting from time to time or "someone" who does Make-up. Most of those guys & girls became really close friends and I'm humble to have them around on such amazing days.

So, we actually had a big shooting day going on.

First my buddy Raphael, aka Farbenfroh, shot some pieces of Sandersens new clothing line.
After that I did a test with a girl I recently found and thought she'd do amazing in front of my camera, and hell she did.
The second one was one of the ideas we talked about since we last met in Dec., inspired by native americans.
We'll see how the editing goes :)

Here I'd like to share some of the impressions I captured behind the scenes:
